Back to our Future As usual at this time of year the roadside verges look particularly beautiful, filled as they are with fresh green grass, clouds of cow parsley and bright yellow buttercups. And as usual, no doubt, just before the Flower Festival, some tidy minded soul will mow the lot down and leave the verges and banks bare. Why not, just this once, leave the verges until after the Flower Festival weekend? WWW.Wormingford . . . Yup - you can now log on to . . . www.wormingford.btinternet.co.uk and see all the colour pictures we cant publish in the Worm, find out at what Church Service you are due to do a reading 2 weeks before it happens (as opposed to 2 weeks after!) - a real boon to our overseas subscribers who hitherto have received their copies of the Worm in a cleft stick, some months after publication. I will be adding links to information and material about St Andrews School, a guided photographic tour of the village and its surroundings, a history section, and a village personalities page (if you have a personality, please let me know! ) All contributions and suggestions are very welcome. September Club Bring and Buy A Bring and Buy Stall will be held at the Sports Pavilion on Saturday 20th May from 10 am. A variety of plants, cakes and bric a brac will be on sale. Please come along to buy, and to bring, goodies. We trust the weather will be kind to us. AP |
Annual Parish Council Meeting There were 19 villagers present at the annual parish meeting, a welcome improvement on the last few years. The Chairman Mr P Flatman welcomed and thanked everyone for attending and then gave his report. Severe Shortage of Councillors! Starting with the fact that Mrs C Cook had left the village and that she had put in several years service to the village through the Parish Council. The position left vacant by her leaving was not filled as the election was coming up. As there were not enough people applying to go on the Parish Council there will not now be an election. Mr J Tufnell, Mr R Huk and myself, Brian Tansley are at present the only Parish Councillors so we will be hoping to co-opt some villagers onto the Council. Anyone interested please write to Mr D Warren, Clerk to the Parish Council, at 44, Thurlow Court, Stowmarket, Suffolk, IP14 1HZ, before the next meeting on Thursday 25 May 2000. Mr P Flatman thanked the people in the village who had done various things throughout the year like Mr D Simpson for the Worm, Mr T Nicholas for the work done on the paths and Mr R Huk for organizing the advertising in the Worm. Mr D Warren stated that the money allocated to the villages was being reduced by the Borough Council. The village audit was passed first time and the certificate issued straight away. There is a lot of work involved in this now and this increases each year. The meeting was then opened up for general discussion. The first query being the name of the development road Chantry Drive. This name was issued by the Borough Council and as a village we were not consulted on it. Some people felt that as it did not relate to anything that we should have had a choice and picked something more in keeping. The problem of keeping the verges and small green areas along the Main Road was discussed some villagers suggesting that someone should be employed to do this. This might be the way to go and could be paid for from the rates. There was concern voiced about the mess made by vehicles being parked on these green areas - it was pointed out that access is permissible across the greens but parking on them is not. |
