Easter Flowers

Thank you ladies for your help with the decorating of the church for Easter, and also for the flowers and greenery. Your kindness was much appreciated.

Flower Festival

The thank you list for the Flower Festival gets more difficult to do each year, as more and more people get involved, and the fear of missing someone out increases. So, once again I am chickening out, and just thanking everyone who gave their time to make it the success it was-- this year making £3,600 in spite of the unhelpful weather.

Thank you all very much, and once again, please come and do it again next year.

Progress on the St. Andrew’s School Building Project Funding Appeal

An appeal for funding of the school’s building project was launched in April through the parish magazines of Little Horkesley and Wormingford. So far we have received six donations for a total amount of £1,040. If tax is reclaimed under the Gift Aid scheme, this amount will be increased by 28 %. All donors have been thanked individually and we hope that their generous example will encourage others to make contributions towards achieving our target of raising £10,000.

The school is currently finalising a contract for completion of the project with construction planned for September.

To the Editor May 31st

I have had two car punctures in the last month and I have found six large nails in the round outside our house. Something needs to be done to stop the builders and contractors making such a mess of our roads.

Parish Council - 25th May 2000

Mr P Flatman opened this meeting, the first of the new Parish Council, and thanked the people who had put their names forward to be co-opted on to the council. This situation arose as eight plus people did not put themselves forward at the time the elections were being held. Mr P Flatman then asked for nominations for the post of Chairman and Mr J Tufnell was elected to this position. Mr J Tufnell then took over the meeting.

Mr S Cousins was then asked by Mr D Warren if he would assist in the nomination procedure to make sure it was done strictly to the rules laid down by law. This Mr S Cousins accepted and the following were co-opted on the Parish Council:

Mr Paul Flatman, Mrs Diana Williamson, Mr Geoffrey Nurse, Mr Bryan Bellars, to join those already on the council - Mr John Tufnell, Mr Richard Huk and Mr Brian Tansley.

The junction at Packards Lane and Fordham Road has now been altered and so far seems to be working all right.

Braintree Council sent a letter asking us what use is made of the village hall by children no reason was given for this but we will send them the information.

When we get the new notice board it will be sited if possible were the old one is at present. The Borough Council have said that they will complete the footpath in front of Queenswood Farm, from the new houses to the village hall chase on the Main Road.

The Borough Council has agreed to the need for a 10 metre fence to protect the new houses from the playing field and the developer will erect this.
